SMARTLINE-PV Consortium Advances Lead-Free Perovskite PV at Rome Project Meeting

The SMARTLINE-PV consortium met in Rome on 24 and 25 February 2026 for two days of technical exchange, project coordination and collaborative planning.

Representatives from across the European consortium presented the latest progress within the project’s work packages and aligned the next steps toward scalable, sustainable and building-integrated photovoltaic solutions.

The technical programme addressed key areas of SMARTLINE-PV, including:

  • plasma-assisted processing of lead-free perovskite thin-film photovoltaics;
  • pathways toward large-area production and industrial scale-up;
  • coloured module technologies and architectural integration;
  • device architecture, module development and encapsulation;
  • sustainability, ecodesign and circularity;
  • demonstrators, real-life testing and IoT-enabled PV solutions;
  • communication, dissemination and future exploitation.

The presentations were followed by in-depth discussions on technical progress, interfaces between the work packages and the requirements for transferring research results into future applications.

A highlight of the meeting was the laboratory tour at the CNR Institute of Structure of Matter (CNR-ISM) and the visit to the CHOSE – Centre for Hybrid and Organic Solar Energy. The visits provided valuable insights into the ongoing research activities, laboratory infrastructure and development capabilities of the local partners.

The consortium dinner offered an additional opportunity to continue discussions in an informal setting and strengthen collaboration among the project partners.

The SMARTLINE-PV consortium sincerely thanks Aldo Di Carlo, Enrico Leonardi and Venanzio Raglione for the excellent organisation and warm hospitality in Rome.

The meeting marked another important step in the joint development of innovative, lead-free and sustainable perovskite photovoltaic technologies for future building and energy applications.

SMARTLINE-PV is funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe research and innovation programme.
