SMARTLINE-PV was represented at the International Chemical Congress of Pacific Basin Societies – Pacifichem 2025, held in Honolulu, Hawaii, from 15 to 20 December 2025.
On 19 December, Thomas Rath from Graz University of Technology, coordinator of SMARTLINE-PV, delivered the invited presentation:
“SMARTLINE-PV – Scalable Lead-Free Tin Halide Perovskite Solar Cells Enabled by Innovative Crystallization Techniques.”
The presentation introduced the project’s work on sustainable, lead-free perovskite photovoltaics to an international audience from chemistry, materials science and energy research.
SMARTLINE-PV is developing fast, robust and scalable plasma-assisted crystallization processes for tin-halide perovskite thin films. The project addresses key challenges currently limiting lead-free perovskite photovoltaics, including material stability, controlled crystallization, device efficiency and the transfer from laboratory-scale solar cells to large-area manufacturing.
The research combines materials development, process engineering, module design, ecodesign and industrial integration. Its objective is to establish scalable photovoltaic solutions for applications including building-integrated photovoltaics, coloured solar modules and IoT devices.
The invited presentation received highly positive feedback and led to stimulating scientific discussions with researchers from the international Pacific Basin community. The exchange provided valuable perspectives on current developments in perovskite materials, scalable fabrication and the future role of sustainable thin-film photovoltaics.
Participation in Pacifichem 2025 strengthened the international visibility of SMARTLINE-PV and created new opportunities for scientific dialogue and future cooperation beyond Europe.
