On 12 October 2026, the SMARTLINE-PV project will hold a stakeholder workshop at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie. The event will focus on circular product design, digital integration and end-of-life strategies for lead-free perovskite building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV).
The workshop brings together expertise from architecture, façade engineering, roofing, construction, project development, certification and photovoltaics. Its objective is to align the technology development within SMARTLINE-PV with the practical requirements of the construction and PV sectors.
A dedicated session will address IoT-enabled photovoltaics and the potential of connected solutions for monitoring, data acquisition and the intelligent integration of PV systems into buildings.
Another key contribution will be a presentation by Ing. Marius Goos on certification pathways for BIPV products. The presentation will provide an overview of relevant approval procedures in Germany, including the general technical approval (abZ) and project-specific approval (ZiE) within the framework of the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt).
Further topics addressed during the interactive workshop sessions include:
- requirements for integrating lead-free perovskite PV into buildings;
- potential applications in façades, roofs and other building elements;
- technical, architectural and regulatory challenges;
- circular product design and design for disassembly;
- concepts for take-back, reuse and recycling;
- recommendations for future product development and market deployment.
The results of the workshop will contribute to the development of sustainable, digitally connected and building-compliant photovoltaic solutions. They will also help ensure that future lead-free perovskite PV products meet the needs of stakeholders across the entire value chain.
